The Ladies International Social Club of Abuja (LISCOA) (formerly known as Abuja International Women’s Club – AIWC), recently empowered Internally Displaced People in Yola, Adamawa State! The women only club was concerned about how other women in rural communities are exposed to the danger of smoke inhalation while cooking and decided to donate energy efficient wood stoves to help reduce the menace of smoke related diseases to women.
Women in the IDP camp also stand the risk of sexual molestation whenever they go to the bush to fetch firewood to cook for their family. This intervention will go a long way in protecting the female IDPs from sexual molestation and smoke inhalation which causes various respiratory diseases.
The LISCOA is a non-political, non-religious, non-profitable organization established for women from the International community residing in and around Abuja and has decided to make an impact in the lives of vulnerable women. The main purpose of the club is to promote friendship and understanding among women of diverse nationalities by organizing humanitarian, recreational and social activities.
